Holy moly, I can’t believe this is the first time I’m sharing this bookcase with you! I decorated it several weeks ago but am just now getting around to photographing it. Why has it taken me so long to photograph it? I took a little break from blogging for about a month, and here’s why. Now that I’m back it, I wanted this to be one of the first projects I shared with you.

This bookcase is one that we fixed up awhile back. It used to live in my old home office but we moved it downstairs once we finished our basement.

As usual, I wanted to keep our rustic bookshelf decor inexpensive so I paired items together that I already had with items that I “made” feel rustic. The birch candles are ones I’ve accumulated over the years and usually use in winter and fall themed displays. I thought they would work well all year in our basement as rustic bookshelf decor.

On the top shelf, I used some old books and covered them with some brown, dollar store wrapping paper to make them feel rustic. It was such an easy and inexpensive project that gave me almost an entire shelf of rustic bookshelf decor.

On the middle shelf, I used some crates I got on clearance at Michael’s awhile back. The antlers were my husband’s that he had before we even got together. They weren’t being used, and I thought they would make for a fun decorative touch. It can be challenging to come up with decor to put in bins and baskets, and I think these antlers are such a fun idea, especially if you love rustic bookshelf decor.

The lower half of the shelves consist of some galvanized and wood decor that I picked off from other places in my home. By keeping the scheme to mostly wood, gray, and galvanized decor, it really makes it feel rustic.

I love the way this rustic bookshelf decor plays off our DIY pallet wall for our TV. It helps to carry the rustic theme through the basement, and I’m loving the way it’s all coming together.

The white column in our basement also works well against the white bookshelf. As part of the bookcase makeover, we added crown molding to the top. It was such an easy addition but it really goes a LONG way and helps make it look a bit classier.

I’m really happy with the way the rustic bookshelf decor turned out, and the best part was it was so inexpensive. I really only had to shop for decor around my home and buy a dollar store roll of wrapping paper to make it happen.

We still have a ways to go in our basement as far as decorating, but I’m thrilled we got this bookshelf decorated and can check that off our list.
