Come on in and take a look at my newest gallery wall! This is actually the third time I’ve moved these frames around my home. Are you surprised? 😉

I think the frames are going to stay put here, around our living room TV, for awhile. This is our main living room area where guests and family gather, so it’s been really nice having a little touch of our family in these frames, for others to look at when they visit.

This space has come quite a long way! Take a look at the before image.

And here’s the after:

This transformation didn’t cost very much, but I still got a lot of bang for my buck.

Here are four easy steps to transform your TV wall into something beautiful!

How to decorate around a TV Using a Gallery Wall

Step 1: Get a TV console

Jason and I thought awhile about how to decorate around a TV, and initially we were looking at adding some type of large entertainment center, whether it be built it or not.

We’d come across a couple of entertainment centers that we were considering, but ultimately we decided to keep this project budget friendly and go with a different approach.

That’s when we started looking into using a TV console instead of a larger entertainment center.

Having a TV console allows you to put a really nice gallery wall on either side of the TV, which an entertainment center wouldn’t accommodate.

We purchased our TV console from a seller on Facebook Marketplace for just $35. Score!

It was originally brown, and initially I used a white wax on it to make it over, but eventually decided that I wanted it to be white instead, so I painted it.

I was super lazy with when painting our TV console white and I got paint on the hinges. I should’ve removed the hinges and doors when I painted this cabinet, but since I didn’t, I had to remove the paint from the hinges afterwards.

I chatted all about how to remove paint from hinges in my recent Instagram post.

If you already have a TV console, that’s awesome. If it’s not what you want it to look like, consider painting it or finding one second-hand.

Make sure that the TV console you do use it wider than the TV.

Step 2: Create the gallery wall

Next up, I created the gallery wall using simple white frames with black and white photos.

This was such an easy project, and all things considered, fairly budget-friendly.

The frames I bought were pretty cheap but also really nice looking. You can definitely opt to buy more expensive frames, but I really liked the look of these ones, especially for the price.

I like the addition of black and white photos or even sepia-toned photos because it creates a cohesive feel.

Once this project is done, it’ll really give your TV wall a more substantial look.

Step 3: Balance the look with plants or chairs on either side of the TV console.

Once the photos were hung on either side of the TV, I realized that it created an unbalanced, top-heavy look.

If you have a wide enough TV console that spans the width of the TV and gallery walls on either side of your TV, then you can skip this step.

If you’re TV console is not wide enough (like mine!), then you’ll also have a top-heavy look.

To offset the top-heavy look, add something to balance it, like chairs, plants or something else of a similar size. You can place the chairs or plants on either side of the console for balance.

I opted to place plants with plant stands on either side of the TV console, as opposed to chairs, because I already had them on hand.

I just moved them from my dining room to my living room. I loved that it was a free solution for my dilema!

Before buying anything new, try searching around your home for something that would be the right size for that space. Plants and chairs work great, but there are plenty of other options like storage baskets or step stools.

Step 4: Add decor on top of the TV console.

The last step to decorate around a TV using a gallery wall is to add decor to your TV console.

If you have a taller TV console than mine, you may not need too much decor, if any.

If you have a shorter TV console, similar to mine, you’ll want to add some type of decor on top the console so you don’t have a large blank space between the console and TV.

I added various decor items that I had on hand, including candles and candlesticks, a basket with some photo albums, Jason’s cigar box, and some vases with fresh flowers.

Decorating around a TV with a gallery wall is such a simple and budget-friendly look to create and it really makes a pretty statement in a living room.
