Although they require a needle and thread, these DIY pumpkins are a great project for beginner crafters. It’s hard to mess these up because they are so forgiving.

DRAW & CUT OUT CIRCLES

This plate was just the right size for my fabric so I used it to draw circles. If your fabric is smaller or larger, just find something circular to use. Your circle doesn’t have to be perfect in any way.

THREAD YOUR NEEDLE & SEW

Anytime I hear the words thread and needle, I usually shy away. If you’re anything like me, fear not. This project does not require a sewing machine or any type of advanced sewing skills. You just need to be able to thread a needle and weave the thread in and out of fabric. You’ll sew around the border of the circle until the thread meets. Cinch the threads a bit to create a pumpkin-like shape. Don’t close it off just yet though.

STUFF YOUR PUMPKIN

Now comes the fun part: Fill your pumpkin with some type of stuffing. To achieve a relaxed-feel, I left some room with the filler. Try not to overstuff your pumpkins if you want this look.

CLOSE THE SEAM

After you pull the threads tight, make sure to knot them several times.

MAKE THE LEAVES & VINES

It’s beginning to look a lot like a pumpkin now! You just need to add the final touches.

Cut out leaf shapes with a different type of fabric of your choosing. You’ll also want to go ahead and cut a few pieces of twine to make vines. Hot glue both the leaves and vines to the top of your pumpkin to hide the seam.

INSERT THE STEM

I used a twig from my backyard to make the stem. Simply hot glue it to the seam. Then wrap your twine or “vines” around the stem to give it a more polished look.
