A note from Marly: I’m so excited to share this post with you about how to shiplap a wall. My friend Melissa over at Brown Dog Vintage recently created a shiplap accent wall in her master bedroom. It looks absolutely stunning. Take a peek at the tutorial below to see how you too can achieve this beautiful look. Enjoy! This post was originally published on Brown Dog Vintage. Shiplap – It’s on fire right now in the decor world and with good reason. It’s timeless and classic. It goes hand in hand with farmhouse style and I’ve been patiently (big fat lie – no patience here my friends!) waiting to add some to our builder grade house. I’m in the process of updating our […]
It’s no secret that my husband and I are frugal people. This especially goes for all home improvement tasks, as we first seek to DIY. If the task is something for which we’re unfamiliar, we put Google to good use and research like crazy, or we watch several YouTube tutorial videos in hopes of gaining the necessary knowledge to perform the task. There have been several occasions when the home improvement task requires a professional, but even in those cases we do our due diligence to find the best-priced professional without sacrificing quality. Here in Maryland, Spring is in the air. One of my favorite things to do this time of year is plant flowers for the season. I was going through all of my gardening tools and accessories when I came upon a trio of old plant stands I had bought several years ago. The paint was chipping and they were beginning to rust. Instead of throwing them away, I decided to restore the beauties so I could enjoy them all season long. I am a firm believer in reusing and up cycling, especially if the project only requires a few coats of paint. It’s a great way to save money, and if you do a good paint-job, your item will look brand new. […]
I love Home Goods just as much as the next person. They always have the best statement pieces and the prettiest décor items. And while Home Goods and other similar home stores may not be overly expensive, you can usually get the same look for a fraction of the cost. That is, as long as you don’t mind putting in a little extra effort. There are, of course, times when you can’t DIY something and have to buy new. That’s why I’ve created an all-encompassing, money-saving-strategies list for both the ‘buy-new’ times and the DIY times. Your baby’s first Easter is such a special time. They’re only going to have their first Easter once. I was debating for awhile if I was going to make a ‘first Easter basket’ since my daughter is only six months old and won’t really know what’s happening. When I thought about what to use as a basket filler, I realized candy wouldn’t work because she doesn’t eat candy yet. As I kept thinking about it, I decided she HAS to have a first Easter basket. She just has to! I was determined to make my daughter a beautiful Easter basket without spending a fortune. I never like to spend too much on anything – mostly because I know I can make anything beautiful without breaking the bank, and […]

I am so excited about this DIY tutorial! I adore this buffet and absolutely love how it turned out – just the way I had imagined. I only spent $75 on the buffet and had mostly all the other materials needed to do this home project. In this tutorial, I will break down the process in an easy-to-digest, step-by-step format so that you too can achieve this look with virtually any piece of wood furniture. Once you know the basics of wood working, you can apply your knowledge and skill to any wood project. My dad is a master with anything wood related. He actually owned his own woodworking business for twenty-some years, so as you can imagine, I have picked up […]
There are plenty of beautiful nursery letters you can buy that are already painted. The problem: you’ll pay upwards of $10 per letter. I made a simple, DIY version with six letters all for under $10. You can make these so easily, even if your painting skills aren’t the best.
